HALL Structured Finance (HSF) recently welcomed Travis Bell to the team as loan officer. In his role at HSF, Travis will be responsible for originating loans for commercial real estate projects across the United States, with a strong focus on multifamily and hotel construction loans.
In this Q&A, learn more about Travis’s journey to HSF – from his entrepreneurial beginnings as a business owner to his transition into the finance industry. Also, hear about his personal interests and hobbies outside of the office, which includes a backpacking trip through the Sawtooth Mountain Range.
Can you share some insight into your background and professional journey? What initially drew you to a career in finance?
I started out running my own business, a travel company. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot of lessons along the way but eventually, it came time for me to pivot. I enjoy problem solving and helping people, which there are plenty of opportunities to do that in finance.
Tell us a little about your last role – milestones or major projects you would like to share?
In my last role, I first started out originating SBA loans for several years. Eventually the company pivoted to the lower-middle market space, and we were working on much larger, construction-focused, projects. It has been a joy working with a wide variety of borrowers on deals across the spectrum – from a small taqueria all the way to a $100MM+ development.
The CRE lending business is constantly changing with interest rates going up and traditional lenders pulling back. What opportunities do you anticipate in this role as loan officer at HSF?
HSF is well positioned to take advantage of the pullback across the capital markets. With a rock-solid management team, it’s exciting to see the opportunities that the future has in store for the company as we continue to lend despite different challenges in the industry.
What are you looking forward to during your time at HSF?
I’m looking forward to learning from industry veterans who have gone through several market cycles together. In addition, given how long many people have been at HALL – it is a testament not just to their business acumen, but who they are as people.
Outside of work, what are your interests and hobbies that help balance your professional life?
I love the great outdoors, travel, and motorsports. From backpacking through the Sawtooth Mountain Range, to racing my motorcycle around Circuit of the Americas, to scuba diving to a downed WWII fighter plane – life is all about creating peak life experiences.
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tacos – the most variety of options and plenty of tastiness.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
How you do anything is how you do everything.
